It occurred to me recently that you should be able to move your chapters around until they fit the story you're actually telling.
Nobody writes a novel front to back. A scene shows up on a Tuesday with no obvious home. A flashback you drafted in the middle turns out to belong near the front. You finish a chapter and realize the one before it lands harder if it comes after. Sorting that out should be as simple as picking a chapter up and dropping it where it goes, and until this week Skrivana had no real way to let you do that.
Now it does.
The manuscript lives on the project dashboard. Every chapter shows up as a card, in reading order, numbered. Grab a card and drag it to move it. That's the real order, the one your exports use, so a Word file, EPUB, or PDF comes out the way you arranged it there and nowhere else.
The side panel is yours to mess with. Build folders, nest folders inside folders, shuffle chapters around while you work. None of it touches the manuscript. Reorganize the left panel however makes sense to you today and your book stays exactly where you put it.
Dragging works in the side panel now too. Chapters, notes, elements, folders, all of it. Pick something up and a line shows you where it's about to land. Drop it on the middle of a folder to file it inside, or drop it just above or below a row to slot it in there. Phones can't do the drag gesture, so everything also has move up and move down tucked in its menu.
And the search boxes actually search. They had been sitting there for a while looking like search boxes without doing a single thing. An oversight on my part. Type in one now and the list narrows as you go. Folders with a match inside will open themselves so you can see the hit, and if a folder's own name matches you get everything in it. Same behavior in chapters, notes, and elements.
One small thing while I was in there. The chapter cards on the dashboard used to show a number above the title that didn't line up with anything you could see. That's gone. The number on a card now is just where that chapter sits in the book.
Skrivana is still in beta. If any of this breaks or feels off, use the feedback button in the app or send a note to contact@skrivana.com. It genuinely shapes what I work on next.
Happy Writing!
