Starting a Dev Log

Some weeks it's shiny new features. Some weeks it's chasing down a bug hardly anyone will see. Both go in here.

I've decided to start keeping a dev log.

The idea is pretty simple. Whenever I make a meaningful change to Skrivana, I'll write down what changed and why and drop it here. Not the polished announcement version, the real "here's what I actually worked on" version.

Some weeks that'll be the fun stuff. New features, things I've wanted to build for a while, changes that genuinely make the app nicer to write in. Other weeks it'll be a lot less glamorous. A dropdown that decided to open behind the writing area. A button that smashed into another button on smaller screens. The little papercuts nobody notices once they're gone but everyone feels while they're there.

Both kinds matter, so both kinds end up here.

To kick things off, a bit of what's had my attention this week:

I squashed a genuinely irritating bug. The font and size menus in the editor toolbar were opening behind the page, so you'd tap "Font" and the options would appear somewhere you couldn't see or reach. Not a great look for a writing app. That one came out of a change we made to let the toolbar scroll on small screens. Fix one thing, break another. A tale as old as time.

And a big one that I'm kind of excited about! Quicksand is now the font across the whole app (including this devlog). It was already on the public pages, and now everything else matches. You can pick it as a writing font too, and it's the default for new projects. Sounds like a one-line change. It was not a one-line change.

Quicksand, now selectable in the editor's font menu.

That's the gist. Build in public, papercuts and all. More soon.
